The Lugus Board maintains overview of all the activities within the association. It oversees the committees, organises activities and represents Industrial Engineering and Management, Mechanical Engineering, and System & Control students on several occasions. In addition, the board plays an important role in the contact with the study, faculty and university. The following text is a short introduction of ourselves.

Matthijs Scholten | Chairman  

Hello everyone. My name is Matthijs Scholten and I will be the Chairman of TBV Lugus for the academic year 2026-2027. I was born in Arnhem and grew up with both Dutch and French nationality. Lugus helped me feel at home here in Groningen and allowed me to meet people who have become some of my closest friends After three years of being active at Lugus, including the introduction and borrel committee,  I am happy to lead the association that means so much to me and being able to give something back to the association that has given me so much is what motivated me to join the board.

Outside of my studies and Lugus, I enjoy playing all kinds of sports, although my competitive side means I sometimes get maybe a bit too enthusiastic. I also rarely turn down an opportunity to go out and enjoy everything that the best student city in the country has to offer. Whether it's in the Lugus Lounge, at a borrel, or somewhere in the city with a drink in hand, there's a good chance you'll run into me.  If you ever have a question, need a chat, or simply want to grab a drink, don't hesitate to stop by the Lounge or send me a message. I'm always happy to help. 

Jaime Fais | Secretary 

Ciao a tutti! My name is Jaime Fais, and I am the new secretary of TBV Lugus. I grew up in Groningen and decided to stay here for my studies. I have not regretted it the slightest since, as you may know, Groningen is known as the student city of the Netherlands. I hope you have a great start to your student life, and that Lugus is a part of it.

In my free time, I like to do sports and play the piano. In case of good weather, you can probably find me in the Noorderplantsoen with a beer in my hand. Furthermore, I also work as a waiter at Osteria Da Vinci, right across from the Stadsschouwburg.

I decided to do a board year to give back to the association after everything I got out of it. Friendships, memories, and career opportunities.

Brian Montgomery Gerardo Pot Heredia | Treasurer

你好! My name is Brian Pot Heredia, and I will be your Treasurer for the 25th Board of TBV Lugus this academic year. I was born in the Dominican Republic and grew up in Musselkanaal since my middelbare(high school). 

Since then, Lugus has become a big part of my student life. What started as "just joining a few activities" quickly turned into spending way too much time in the Lugus Lounge. Along the way I was also part of the Introduction Committee together with Matthijs and Ruben, and now I've somehow ended up on the 25th Board with them.

Outside of Lugus, you'll often find me working out, being at my student association, at the UB, having beers with my house, or spontaneously planning my next adventure. Last year I had the opportunity to study abroad in Shanghai, which gave me the chance to experience a completely different culture and meet people from all over the world. I enjoy challenging myself, whether that's in sports, travelling, or my studies.

I'm excited for everything this year has in store and look forward to meeting both new and familiar faces. Feel free to drop by the Lugus Lounge for any questions or try and challenge me over a game we have there as I am almost unbeatable.

Luuk Dorst | Commissioner of Public Relations and Education

Hi Lugus, my name is Luuk Dorst and I’ll be the Commissioner of Public Relations and Education this year. A board member we did not have last year! Born in Amsterdam and raised in Utrecht, after thinking about what to study for a while and taking a gap year as a ski instructor in Austria in between, I moved to Groningen to study Industrial Engineering and Management especially. Since moving here I’ve been involved with Lugus although not actively until becoming the (very important) Communication Coordinator of the ESTIEM committee. Where I organised and participated in trips and events for IEM students all over Europe. But even before becoming active I always enjoyed spending my study breaks with my friends in the Lugus lounge, playing a game of trackmania or utilising the “unlimited” free coffee.

After spending the previous year focussed on student rowing, I decided this year to completely commit to another aspect of student life and join the 25th Board! If I do something I like to fully commit. If you want to talk about courses, sports or promo ideas, feel free to drop by the Board room in the lounge or send me a message to grab a coffee!

Ruben van Veen | Commissioner of Corporate Relations

Hi everyone, my name is Ruben van Veen, and I will be your Commissioner of Corporate Relations for the upcoming year. I was born and raised in Assen, and for the past two years I have been living in Groningen. Since the start of my studies, I have been actively involved with Lugus, from helping organize an amazing orientation camp to enjoying countless Wednesday afternoon drinks with the Borrelcie. Lugus has brought me many new friends and memorable adventures, which is why I decided to join the association’s 25th Executive Board this year. I love playing sports, there is hardly a sport I would say no to, but I am always up for other fun activities as well. I am really looking forward to seeing all of you in the lounge (especially on Wednesday afternoons) and I am excited for the year ahead.
