Darts Competition

The Lugus Darts Competition is, like the Klaverjas Competition, made up of two stages. A group stage and a Knock-out stage. The format and rules of these stages are explained below.

The finale of the 1st Lugus Darts Competition will be on the 14th of May 2025, Save the Date!

Group phase

The Group phase will start this year on the 10th of March! and all games have to be played by the 4th of May, this is an 8 week period of which 2 weeks are the exam period, therefore there is an actual period of 6 playable weeks.
During the Group phase all contenders are divided into equally sized groups of preferably 4-6 contenders.
Over the course of a few weeks every contender in a group will have to play each other with an average rate of one game per week.

Every game start with each contender throwing one dart at bullseye, closest dart to the bullseye gets to start the game.
The game-sort which will be played is called: "Around the Clock". In this, each player takes turns to throw 3 darts and is required to throw a dart in every segment starting from 1 up to 20 and then to finish with the a 25 (bull) or 50 (bullseye). Additionally, if a player hits the corresponding double or triple segment, the player goes either two or three segments up respectfully. Lastly, if a player hits three consecutive darts in the correct segments (i.e. 1, then 2, then 3, or 1, then double 2, then 4) the player is allowed to throw another three darts without the other player being able to throw.
The format will be one game, winner takes home three points. Important is to notate how many points the other contender was behind when the game ended, to provide a decisive second scoring if there is a tie in points.

After all group-phase games are played, the top 16 players will proceed to the next round, the knock-out phase. This mean that the numbers 1 and 2 of every group will proceed and the best scoring number threes.

Knock-out phase

The knock-out phase will start on the 5th of May and will end with the semi-final and the final, which will both be played on an external location, on the 14th of May.
During this knock-out phase the best scoring darter from the group phase will play, in his first game, the lowest scoring darter of the final 16, the number 2 will play the number 15 and so on. The winners of these quater-finals will proceed directly to the semi-finals and the losing contenders here are directly knocked-out of the competition.
This quarter-final is the only other game which won't be played at the external location and thus is also the only game which has to be played during the one and a half week period before the finale.

Every game start with each contender throwing one dart at bullseye, closest dart to the bullseye gets to start the game.
The game-sort which will be played for the final games of the competition will be the original darts "501". Each player starts with a score of 501, and the aim is to count down until the player (winner) achieves a final score of 0. This is completing a 'leg'. Important to note, the last dart thrown has to be on a double, for example if a player is on 20 he has to score double 10 to finish the leg, if the player hits the regular 20 it is called 'bust' and the player restarts on 20 points.
For the quarter-final and the semi-final the format will be best of three legs, or one set, for the finale it wil be best of 5 legs.

Price

The winner of the competition wins €40 to spend on darting equipment!
